Wait and See

Wait and See is a documentary film. Quirky Emma (15) adores Ramses Shaffy, a deceased Dutch artist. Her classmates think she's weird and question her gender every day. Emma wants to become an artist. She works hard to blow her bullying classmates away with her very own music - if she'll find a band... Wait and see!

Susan Koenen (The Hague, The Netherlands, 1974) loves to make documentary films about courageous, young people. People who have the guts to be different, people who dare to jump over the stormy rivers in their lives. Susan's films stand out because of her empathic approach which results in protagonists who feel free to express themselves.

She directed the multi-award winning short doc 'I Am a Girl!' about a girl in a boy's body and also got a lot of attention and awards for 'Ahmad's Hair', about a Syrian boy who fled to The Netherlands and wants to give something in return for his new-found safety. In her latest film 'Wait and See', Koenen is able to show Emma’s hopes and fears while struggling to fit in and finding out who she is.
